A carer is someone who helps another person with their day-to-day living, unpaid.
The person you support may be an older person or a child. They may have a disability or mental health problems or they might misuse substances.
Anyone can be a carer, whatever their age, background, or lifestyle. As a carer, you might do some of the following things:
Caring looks different for everyone, so you might not see your responsibilities listed here. But if someone you know would not cope without your support, then you are a carer.

If you are a carer, the first step is to register with us.
Once we know that you’re an unpaid carer, we can share information and advice that’s right for you. You’ll also receive our biannual newsletter, which is full of news, advice, and events to help carers like you.
